Kathmandu, April 15
Former Judge Bhuwan Giri, who was convicted on the charge of marital rape, has surrendered at the District Court in Kathmandu. Chandra Prasad Panthi, information officer of District Court Kathmandu informed that he was sent to prison.
The bench of Supreme Court Justices Hari Phuyal and Til Prasad Shrestha on April 3 overturned the orders of the Kathmandu District Court and the High Court and ordered Giri to be sent to prison. Kathmandu District Court and Patan High Court ordered Giri to be released on bail. However, after Giri was not arrested, his wife Aarti Rawal was on fast.
His wife Aarti had been fighting a legal battle since November 2022, saying that Giri had subjected her to domestic violence, sexual abuse and unnatural intercourse.
