The Dipayal High Court has sentenced a man from Achham of Sudurpaschim to three and a half years in jail for marital rape.
The 25-year-old man has been convicted of raping his wife while she was asleep in October 2020.
Following the incident, the survivor had filed a complaint with the police.
Whereas the man had claimed it was consensual sex, neighbours who were present at the court as witnesses had said the survivor had called for help saying she was raped.
The Achham District Court had acquitted the man in February 2021, but the government attorney had filed an appeal at the high court.
Before this too, the woman had filed a polygamy complaint against him, and the district court had released him on bail. Marital rape had taken place when the polygamy case was still sub-judice.
