The Skywell ET5 has been launched in Nepal. The electric SUV has the longest NEDC range currently available in any electric car. The electric car was first seen at the NADA Auto Show 2023. Even though there was not a physical car present, the reviews given were quite good with the features and range it gave.
Skywell, the sibling company of Skyworth, specialises in the development, manufacture and sale of a wide range of consumer electronics, electrical appliances, television sets, security devices, precision technology, lighting solutions, and digital products. Skyworth has been quite popular in the segment. The electric car is the first option from the brand and has been quite popular in the available market.
The mid-sized electric SUV falls into the premium segment of electric vehicles and competes against the BYD Seal Dynamic option, Tesla Model 3 Highland and Hyundai Ioniq 5.

Design
Exterior
The Skywell ET5 is a mid-sized SUV electric SUV with a modern exterior look. The front of the electric car is sleek with the all-around LED lighting. The LED headlamps are sharp with the indicators situated on top. The LED DRLs are L-shaped and are placed just below the headlamps. There is a small grille on the bottom lip.
From the side, the Skywell ET5 has sleek lines flowing from the front. The door handles are simple and traditional whereas the mirror has a dual-tone colour theme. The mirrors also have indicators for better safety. The aluminium alloy wheels add more to the modern theme of the electric car.
The rear of the Skywell ET5 also carries the LED lighting setup with an LED strip running from one tail lamp to the other. The rear mirror features a defogger and wiper to deal with condensation and water droplets. The boot can be opened hands-free by sliding the foot under the boot space which is handy when your hands are occupied.
Interior
The interior of the Skywell ET5 is luxurious with an all-black colour theme. The front dash has soft-touch materials with wooden themes on the side and front panel. The stitching on the dash and centre console adds to the premium feel. The steering wheel also has leather-like material wrapped around it. It has Skywell written on the part of the horn whereas the sides have audio, media and mode control buttons.
Just in front of the steering wheel is the digital instrument cluster which is large and simple to use. The simple UI includes information for speed, battery percentage, safety features, indicators, time, setting, battery usage, drive modes and trip meter. There is also an ambient light strip running across the front dash which lits up the interior.
The Skywell ET5 has a 12.8-inch infotainment system in the centre of the front dash. The screen is bright and has all the functions for the media, audio, call, navigation, climate control, seat controls and settings.
The centre console is also simple with leather stitching and shiny metal parts for the gear knob, cup holders and other buttons. The AC vents are between the infotainment system and the centre console. The centre console also has a spacious storage compartment.
The seats on the Skywell ET5 are luxurious and comfortable. The front driver seat and the passenger seats are electronically adjustable. The rear seats are also comfortable with seating for three. The rear passengers also get AC vents and two USB ports to charge their devices. There is also a panoramic sunroof which can be opened to get the natural sunlight and air. The boot space on the Skywell ET5 is large with 467 litres with the rear seats up and 1141 litres with the rear seats folded down.
Performance
The Skywell ET5 electric car packs a punch with its 150 kW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM), delivering a peak torque of 320 Nm. It has a Front Wheel Drive (FWD) drive type and is powered by an 86 kWh Lithium Ternotary battery, with an impressive NEDC range of 620 km on a single charge. With a charging rate of 11 kW, it takes around 8 hours to fully recharge. It has a top speed of 185 km/h and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds.
Its smooth ride is supported by a MacPherson independent suspension at the front and a multi-link independent suspension at the rear. It rolls on 19″ aluminium alloy wheels wrapped in 235/50 R19 tyres. For braking, it is equipped with vented disc brakes at the front and disc brakes at the rear.
Safety and features
The Skywell ET5 electric car has an array of safety features, including an Antilock Brake System (ABS), Brake Force Distribution (EBD), Auxiliary Braking (EBA), Hill-Start Assist Control (HAC), Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Cruise Control System, and Hill Descent Control (HDC). These integrated systems provide optimal braking performance, distribute braking force effectively and offer additional assistance while riding keeping the people inside safe.
