Nepal’s electric car scene has skyrocketed in numbers in recent years. New car brands with different forms of electric cars have been entering the electric market. The ones currently popular in Nepal are the Subcompact SUVs, which suit the Nepali roads and families. However, the electric hatchbacks are also performing great, with prices ranging from budget to premium.

People who generally opt for electric hatchbacks are looking for small size, space, and range. Their small size makes it easy for them to move around tight spaces efficiently. There are plenty of options for hatchbacks in the Internal Combustion Engines (ICE) category. However, there are a few electric hatchbacks available in Nepal.

We have compiled a list of electric hatchbacks available in Nepal, ranging from budget options to the most expensive models.

List of electric hatchbacks available in Nepal

1. TATA Tiago EV

First on the list of electric hatchbacks available in Nepal is one of the most popular; the TATA Tiago EV. The Tiago EV is the electric version of its petrol sibling the TATA Tiago which debuted back in 2016. The Tiago EV was launched in 2022 with a design similar to its petrol variant. The TATA Tiago EV when launched in Nepal at the 2023 NADA Auto Show became an instant hit. At first, the Tiago EV was available in five trim options; XE Mid-range, XT Mid-range, XT Long-range, XZ+ Long-range and the XZ+ Tech Lux Long-range. But the Tiago EV is only available in the Long-range trim option.

The Tata Tiago EV has EV-specific enhancements that differentiate it from its petrol counterpart. Its exterior includes a closed honeycomb grille, projector LED headlights with DRLs and blue chrome accents indicating its EV status. The other features include a contrast black roof, piano black accents and unique EV details. At the rear, the Tiago EV has a full-width LED tail lamp, EV-specific reflectors and a redesigned bumper for improved aerodynamics. The interior of the Tiago EV includes a 7-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a digital instrument cluster and adjustable leather seats in the top model for enhanced comfort.

In terms of performance, the Tiago EV long-range variant is powered by a 49.01 kW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSN) paired with a 24 kWh battery, providing a range of up to 315 km on a single charge. It accelerates from 0-60 km/h in about 5.7 seconds and can be fully charged in 8.7 hours with a 3.3 kW charger or 3.6 hours with a 7.7 kW charger. Safety features include dual airbags, ABS with EBD, Hill Hold Assist, reverse parking sensors and an intelligent tyre pressure monitoring system (iTPMS).

The TATA Tiago EV costs Rs 2,749,000 for the XT variant, Rs 2,899,000 for the XZ+ variant and Rs 2,999,000 for the XZ+ Tech Lux variant.

2. Wuling Binguo EV

Second on the list of electric hatchbacks is the Wuling Binguo EV. Wuling became famous in Nepal for its Mini Car, the Wuling Air EV. The Air EV quickly gained attraction for its small and compact size, with two range options available. The Wuling Binguo EV is available in one trim option in Nepal. Other trim options are available in different countries. The Binguo EV has a modern exterior and interior, which has appealed to many people in the Nepali market looking for electric hatchbacks.

The Wuling Binguo EV combines classic and modern design elements, featuring rounded and oval-shaped lights, an X-shaped LED setup on both ends and a bean-shaped headlight with DRLs and indicators. 3. Dongfeng Nammi

Next on the list of electric hatchbacks available in Nepal is the Dongfeng Nammi. The Chinese company Dongfeng has an active history in Nepal with other models of the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE). The Dongfeng Nammi got a great response at the 2024 NADA Auto Show, too. The electric hatchback has three variants available: E1, E2, and E3. The E1 is the entry-level model, the E2 represents the mid-range option, and the E3 is the high-end flagship model.

The E1 and E2 come with a 31.4 kWh battery, offering a range of 237 km (WLTP), while the E3 comes with a 42.3 kWh battery that reaches up to 317 km. Charging options for the electric hatchback include a 4-hour AC charge with an 11kW charger or a fast DC charge from 30% to 80% in 30 minutes. Safety features, like dual front airbags, ABS, EBD, and Hill Start Assist, are standard across trims, with the E3 trim adding advanced ADAS functions like Lane Keeping Assist and Traffic Sign Recognition.

The pricing for the Dongfeng Nammi EV varies by trim level: the E1 is Rs 2,999,000, the E2 is Rs 3,199,000, and the E3 is Rs 3,499,000. The dual-tone colour theme costs Rs 50,000 more.

4. BYD Dolphin

When there is a list of electric cars available in Nepal, BYD is a brand that does not get left out. BYD’s e6 created a path for other electric cars such as the BYD ATTO 3 which is one of the most popular electric cars in the price segment. After the success of the ATTO 3, BYD brought in the electric hatchback; the BYD Dolphin. The BYD Dolphin continues the ocean theme lineup from BYD alongside the Seal, Sealion and Seagull.

The BYD Dolphin showcases a sleek, dolphin-inspired design with smooth curves and a bold front. The electric hatchback has an aerodynamic shape that boosts efficiency, while the spacious, minimalist interior includes a versatile 12.8-inch touchscreen and easy-to-use controls for the driver. The seats have Synthetic leather for a comfortable riding experience. The electric hatchback weighs 1,758 kg and has a ground clearance of 175 mm, seating up to 5 people.

The electric hatchback uses a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor, delivering a maximum power of 70 kW and torque of 160 Nm. The 44.9 kWh LFP battery provides a range of 340 km, and it can be fully charged in about 7 hours using a 7 kW AC charger. For a smooth ride, it features McPherson strut suspension in the front and a torsion beam in the rear, with ventilated disc brakes at the front and regular discs at the back. MG also known as Morris Garage has a rich history in the automotive industry. Currently, under the Chinese automotive giant’s SAIC, MG has leapt forward in the electric division. MG’s popular model, the MG ZS is still one of the top competitors in the overall electric car category in Nepal. MG released its stylish and futuristic hatchback, the MG4 EV in Nepal in the 2023 NADA Auto Show alongside the MG Comet mini car. The MG4 EV has attracted plenty of attention for its impressive specs and competitive price as an electric hatchback.

The MG4 EV combines a sleek, sporty exterior with a bold front and eye-catching rear, enhancing its aerodynamic efficiency. The electric hatchback interior combines a spacious cabin with ample legroom, a 10.25-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and advanced driver-assistance features. GWM offers one electric option in Nepal, the GWM ORA 03 electric hatchback. The GWM ORA 03 has got a good response in Nepal for its cute looks and modern tech. The electric hatchback is available in one option in Nepal.

The GWM ORA 03 EV stands out with its Porsche-inspired design, featuring cat-eye LED headlights with auto on-off and high-low beam functions and a full-width LED taillight strip at the rear, adding both style and visibility. The interior offers a modern and comfortable experience with a 7-inch information display, a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen and a rotating electric gear shifter. 7. Nissan Leaf

Last on the list of electric hatchbacks available in Nepal is the Nissan Leaf. The Nissan Leaf got a major facelift in 2017. The electric hatchback has a modern look and features which appeal to many people in the Nepali market searching for a family electric car.

The Nissan LEAF has a sleek design with quick acceleration and smart features for a safer ride. It features a driver-focused design with a leather steering wheel, a sound-dampened cabin and folding rear seats. Its 17-inch alloy wheels add to the dynamic look.
