Kathmandu, October 17
The first International Mountain Art Festival is set to take place in the trans-Himalayan district of Mustang from November 16 to 22, celebrating nature, culture, and creativity.
According to Tripple P Gurung, a member of the organising committee, the festival aims to share and promote Mustang’s traditional music, dance, and cultural heritage among painters. The event will be held in various locations, including Marpha, Thini, Kagbeni, and Jomsom.
The festival will feature outdoor painting workshops, fossil hunting, stone art, sound healing sessions, and various cultural and musical programmes.
Another highlight is the “Travelling KIMFF,” where famous films from the Himalayan region will be screened for two hours each evening from November 18 to 22. This event is organised in collaboration with the Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival (KIMFF).
Internationally renowned painters such as Direk Kingnok and Karaj WSP from Thailand, Ewa Kruczkowska from Poland, Ștefan Balog from Romania, Jampel Cheda from Bhutan, Amy Go from Indonesia, and Cheng Han-Wen from Taiwan will participate in the festival.
Nepali artists, including Sirjan Rajbhandari, Erina Tamrakar, Hareram Joju, NB Gurung, Wang Lama, Dwa Gurung, Manoj Tamang, Navin Nalbo, and Akash Gurung, will also showcase their talents.
KIMFF Chairperson Ramyata Limbu stated that the festival will play a role in promoting tourism in Mustang.
The festival is supported by the Nepal Tourism Board and sponsored by Oms Home, Redhouse, and Thamel Villa Hotel. Additional partners include the European Union, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), Dalai La, Yeti Airlines, Sherpa Brewery, Harmonic Liberation, and Hotel Marsyangdi.
