Kathmandu, November 25
President Ram Chandra Paudel has approved the deployment of the army for the upcoming by-elections. According to Shailaja Regmi Bhattarai, spokesperson for the Office of the President, the approval was granted in accordance with Article 66(2) of the Constitution.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had recommended the approval for army deployment on Thursday, following a Cabinet decision.
A statement issued by the Office of the President mentioned that the army’s deployment is aimed at ensuring the by-elections are conducted in a secure, fear-free, impartial, and peaceful manner.
The by-elections to fill vacant positions in local governments are scheduled for December 1.
