Security heightened in Kathmandu ahead of RPP protest

Kathmandu, April 20

Security has been intensified across Kathmandu in anticipation of a protest by the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) today. Increased police presence has been observed near key government locations including Singha Durbar, the Parliament building in New Baneshwor, Maitighar Mandala, the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar, and the President’s Office.

AIG Tek Bahadur Tamang of Kathmandu Valley Police said a comprehensive security plan has been implemented in response to the RPP protest. He confirmed the deployment of security personnel at various points across the capital.

“We are committed to keeping the protest peaceful and have deployed necessary forces accordingly,” said AIG Tamang. “Under no circumstances will we allow anyone to breach restricted zones. If such an attempt is made, we are prepared to use force if necessary.”

RPP urges government not to fear its symbolic protest

The Rastriya Prajatantra Party is staging a protest in Kathmandu today at 11 AM, demanding the reinstatement of the monarchy and the declaration of Nepal as a Hindu state. RPP Chairperson Rajendra Lingden said the protest will be symbolic and peaceful.

In a social media post, Lingden wrote, “This is a peaceful demonstration against a government that claims to be democratic and republican, yet restricts citizens from expressing their views freely or moving beyond designated boundaries. Only a limited number of party leaders will participate.”
