Kathmandu, April 28
The UCPN-Maoist is busy in a crucial meeting since Thursday morning. The meeting is taking place at the residence of Maoist Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ in Lazimpat. It will discuss the possibility of unification of the UCPN-Maoist and Mohan Baidhya-led Maoist Party (CPN-Revolutionary Maoist) and other contemporary political matters.
Despite much talk, there has been no significant progress on the unification front. Performance of the KP Oli-led ruling coalition, which also includes the UCPN-Maoist, will also figure in the meeting. Some days ago, UCPN-Maoist leader Gopal Kiranti had lambasted the Oli government and stressed the need to seek its alternative.
Kiranti had promised to seek this government’s alternative at party fora. Maoist Chair Prachanda seems to be in favour of turning this government into a national unity government by bring on parties like the Nepali Congress on board. But he seems to be in favour of letting Oli continue as PM.
