At a time when the opposition parties were finalising the no-confidence motion against him, Gandaki Chief Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung has prorogued the provincial assembly session to be effective from Wednesday night.
It means the opposition parties have failed to oust Gurung from the position.
Just on Wednesday afternoon, Nepali Congress, CPN-Maoist Centre, Janata Samajwadi Party and Rastriya Janamorcha had agreed to file the no-confidence motion against Gurung, proposing Krishna Chandra Nepali Pokhrel as the next CM. The motion was certain to get endorsed as Gurung’s CPN-UML was three-vote short to prove the majority in the legislative.
But, before the motion was registered, the Provincial Assembly Secretariat received a notice from the Province Chief (Governor)’s Office that the session has ended, according to the Assembly Secretary Hari Raj Pokharel.
The session had begun just on April 7, and only three meetings were held.
