Nepali swimmer Alexander Shah set a new national record at the Paris Olympics, despite being eliminated in the heats. Competing in Heat 3 of the men’s 100-meter freestyle, Alex finished third in his group with a time of 51.91 seconds, breaking his previous national record.

Shah secured his place in the Paris Olympics through a wild card entry. He previously competed in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, making Paris his second Olympic appearance. Earlier this year, at the World Championships in Doha, Qatar, he set the national record of 52.17 seconds.

With Shah’s elimination, six out of the seven Nepali athletes participating in the Paris Olympics have now exited the competition. Previously, table tennis player Shyantu Shrestha, shooter Sushmita Nepal, swimmer Duana Lama, badminton player Prince Dahal, and judoka Manita Shrestha Pradhan were also eliminated.

The only remaining Nepali athlete in the competition is Santoshi Shrestha, who is set to compete in athletics. Although Prince Dahal has one match left, it is confirmed that he will not advance beyond the group stage.
