Kathmandu, June 15
Eight people have been arrested for advertising and promoting betting websites.
Nepal Police arrested several individuals, including Raju Paudel, Marichman Shrestha, Pawan Khatiwada, Alish Rai, Jwalan Gharti Magar, Ganesh Devkota, Saroj Ghimire, and Begman Nepali.
They were arrested on Wednesday informed DSP Lila Raj Dangi of Kathmandu Valley Crime Division.
On Wednesday, the division made a public announcement regarding the identification of five agents involved in betting activities. Police also confiscated approximately Rs 1 billion from these agents.
As of late, with the surge in advertising betting and casino gaming apps on social media, the police have started to take action against these individuals.
The individuals arrested have been accused of promoting betting websites and acitivies through their YouTube channels. Advertisements were detected on their YouTube videos in which they were asking users to use a promo code to receive discounts on the 1XBet app.
All types of betting activities are banned in Nepal but people continue to use applications like 1xBet.
