Kathmandu, January 4
An all-party meeting called by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba in a bid to forge political consensus for the appointment of province chiefs has failed in its mission owing to the objection of CPN-UML.
Though Deuba also proposed to name temporary provincial capitals on the basis of consensus, the UML said it would not give consent to his plan.
UML leader Subas Chandra Nembang, who represented his Chairman KP Sharma Oli at the meeting, said the issue needed not be discussed at an all-party meeting as it was the jurisdiction of government.
Defending the Prime Minister, Nepali Congress leader Krishna Prasad Sitaula clarified that the government was seeking consensus as some UML leaders earlier warned of boycotting the officials appointed without their consent.
Leaders of five national parties–Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, CPN-Maoist Centre, Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal and Rastriya Janata Party Nepal–had attended the meeting.
