Birgunj, January 27
Chief District Officer of Bara, Ganesh Bhattarai, who sustained critical injuries in a car accident in this district yesterday, has been airlifted to Kathmandu.
Armed Police Force SP Balaram Pokharel was killed in the accident involving Bhattarai’s car (Na 1 Jha 1633) in Nijgadh of the district on Saturday.
A Kailash Helicopter Services chopper took him to Grande International Hospital of Kathmandu this afternoon. The hospital’s critical care specialist Dr Ajaya Thapa had gone to Bara to bring the injured to Kathmandu.
Doctors attending to Bhattarai say his condition is improving, but needs better care and attention.
The vehicle with CDO Bhattarai and SP Pokharel among others onboard had hit a parked tractor, resulting in the fatal accident. They were returning from a picnic hosted by a trade union.
Bhattarai’s bodyguard Sanjaya Yadav, Shambhu Gurung and driver Jagat Patel are out of danger, according to doctors of Birgunj Health Care Hospital.
