The government has formally asked China if it has doubts about Nepal’s commitment to one-China policy.

Shankar Das Bairagi, Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, called China’s Ambassador to Nepal and asked if reports that China is unhappy with Nepal on certain issues is true.

In response, China’s Ambassador to Nepal said such reports are untrue, according to Minister for Foreign Affairs Prakash Sharan Mahat.

Mahat said on Tuesday: We asked Chinese representative about this matter and got a reply that they have no doubts about Nepal government and Nepali leaders’ commitment to one-China policy.

China, though, had expressed concern about the presence of Taiwan’s flag at an art council complex. Mahat said the flag has already been removed through the Ministry of Home, adding that there are no irritants now.

At a recent press conference also, Mahat had reiterated Nepal’s commitment to one-China policy.
