Bharatpur repolling: Devi Gyawali’s son arrested for Facebook libel against Renu Dahal

Nirab Gyawali, son of CPN-UML Chitwan leader Devi Gyawali

Kathmandu, August 2

Police in Kathmandu on Wednesday arrested Nirab Gyawali, son of CPN-UML Bharatpur mayoral candidate Devi Gyawali, on the charge of posting a libel against CPN-Maoist Centre leader Renu Dahal on his Facebook.

The youth has been arrested two days before ward 19 of the city in Chitwan district is going to the second round of voting.

Nirab’s father is fighting against Dahal, daughter of CPN-Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, to win the top position of city.

Police say Nirab has been detained on the basis of a complaint filed by Anil Kumar Pathak, Renu’s husband, against him. Nirab had allegedly posted a defamatory status against Renu on his Facebook after some Maoist cadres tore ballot papers in Bharatpur in May.

SP Prakash Jang Karki at the Metropolitan Crime Division says police are looking into the case. A cyber crime case will be filed against him if the accusation is proved, he informs.

Gyawali family, however, says Nirab has already realised his mistake and apologised to Renu after public criticism.
