A pressure cooker bomb discovered on the premises of Universal College of Medical Sciences in Bhairahawa was neutralised by the Nepal Army.
The bomb was spotted around 10:30 am today by the college gardener while cutting trees. The local administration was immediately informed.
According to Suraj Karki, Deputy Superintendent of Police and spokesperson for the Rupandehi District Police Office, the bomb appeared old and rusted. The Nepal Army safely detonated it to dispose of the threat, he added.
The identity of those responsible for placing the bomb and the timing of its placement remain unknown, and investigations are ongoing.
The pressure cooker had its handle tied with a rope, fitted with components such as a clock battery and other devices.
The medical college had requested the District Administration Office to remove the suspicious object, stated Sushil Gurung, the college’s public relations officer.
The Nepal Army from the Kalibhakti Battalion in Bhairahawa disposed of the bomb around 1 pm . No damage was reported during the disposal process, confirmed police spokesperson Karki.
