Boyfriend confessed to murdering Anu after dispute over marriage

Janakpur, December 18

The murder of 23-year-old Anu Rai, whose body was found on October 9 in the Tuteshwar forest of Bardibas Municipality-5 in Mahottari, has been revealed to have been committed by her boyfriend.

Police arrested the accused, Mandip Kumar Yadav of Chakraghatta Rural Municipality-9, Sarlahi, two months after the incident and presented him to the public. According to Mahottari police spokesperson DSP Santulal Jayaswar, Yadav was apprehended last Monday from Adarshnagar, Ward 4, Birgunj Metropolitan City, Parsa.

Although Anu’s body was discovered on October 9, her identity was not confirmed until October 15, when her father identified her.

Police investigations revealed that Anu and Mandip were in a romantic relationship and had promised to marry. They visited the Tuteshwar temple on October 8 but reportedly had an argument on their way back regarding their marriage plans. During the dispute, Mandip admitted to strangling Anu with a rope and fleeing the scene, according to DSP Jayaswar.

Mandip has been remanded to seven days of custody by the Mahottari District Court as police continue their investigation under the charge of premeditated murder, the District Police Office, Mahottari, confirmed.
