Kathmandu, April 20

The Ministry of Home Affairs has sought a budget of Rs 47 billion for the coming fiscal 2073-74. This amount is five billion rupees more than the National Planning Commission’s budget ceiling for the ministry, according to NPC Secretary Suresh Man Shrestha.

For the fiscal 2073-74, the NPC has fixed a ceiling of around Rs 41.88 billion for the ministry of which around Rs 36.1 billion is the regular budget whereas around Rs 5.33 crore is development budget.

Binod KC, chief of the ministry’s Management Division, said the budget allowed for the fiscal 2073-74 is only 0.78 per cent more than the buget allotted for the current fiscal.

For the current fiscal, the ministry had got Rs 36.46 billion regular budget and Rs 5.1 billion development budget.

It is a pity that the budget did not increase even by one per cent in a sector that also includes police forces. He said they need more budget for constructin of buildings, for rations and for purchase of clothes (for police personnel).

“How will police force develop with a budget hike?” KC questioned. The government is preparing to present a budget of around nine trillion rupees for the coming fiscal.
