Sindhupalchok, March 24
Nepal imported 232 metric tonnes of urea chemical fertiliser from China through the Tatopani transit, says the Tatopani Customs Office.
This import is expected to give relief to farmers who have been reeling under a shortage of fertilisers.
The import took place on Wednesday as part of a contract awarded to a company, Silk Market, to import a total of 10,000 metric tonnes of the chemical fertiliser from China, says customs officer Narad Gautam.
The fertiliser would be sent to Kathmandu when the Department of Customs agrees to this, he says. As part of the import, Silk Market, in the first lot, had imported 1,500 metric tonnes of the fertiliser from China six month ago.
The process to import the remaining 8,500 metric tonnes has started, says the company.
