Kathmandu, February 22
Life in Madhesh has been brought to a standstill due to bandh called by the Madheshi Morcha protesting the government’s decision to conduct civic elections nationwide on May 14.
According to local reports, businesses remain shut and buses off the road. Passengers coming to Nepal from India through the Belhaiya crossing have also been stranged.
In Bhairahawa, bandh enforcers gathered near Buddha Chowk and halted traffic along the road. Banks, factories, schools and colleges remain shut. However, enforcers have allowed motorcycles to ply.
In Rajbiraj, enforcers have halted traffic on the East-west highway. They have not allowed motorcycles to take to the road. The Morcha’s Saptrai committee has said it will allow ambulance, wedding processions and milk supply trucks to ply on the road.
