Kathmandu, June 25
A group of consumer rights activists have filed a complaint against cable operators of the country.
They have done so after cable operators stopped airing foreign channels from Monday in protest of the government’s plan to introduce a clean feed policy.
The government has registered Advertisement (Regulation) Bill in Parliament incorporating the provision. According to the policy, the cable operators cannot broadcast foreign ads.
A day after the cable operators launched their protest, the Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police received a complaint against Sudhir Parajuli, owner of Subisu Cable Net, and Laxmi Narayan Shah, owner of Bageshwari Cable Television.
The complainants state that the cable networks have cheated their consumers by not showing foreign channels even though they paid a fee in advance.
Internet and Digital Television Coordination Committee and Nepal Cable Television Association had stopped the distribution of the foreign channels broadcasting advertisements for 24 hours starting at 3 pm on Monday.
Indian broadcasters have already said that they cannot provide a clean feed to Nepal as it is not viable economically and technically.
