Kathmandu, February 23
In a major political development following the government’s announcement of local level election date, Nepal’s principal opposition party has agreed to allow the ruling coalition to start discussion a controversial constitution amendment bill drafted to address the demands of the Madheshi Morcha.
The UML will allow the ruling coalition to discuss the bill in Parliament, but only for a day, said UML’s Parliamentary Party vice-chief Subas Nembang. He, however, said this was not the right time to discuss the amendment and political parties need to focus on elections.
Nembang added that the UML will not let the amendment bill to be passed.
Nembang said, “For today, we will allow the bill to be discussed. We won’t speak a word, we won’t take part in the discussion.”
