Kathmandu, August 17
Pushing a transition to electric energy further, the government has decided to get rid of cooking gas at all its offices and canteens inside Singhadarbar, the central administrative complex of the federal government.
The ban has come into effect on Wednesday. One security staffer at a Singhadarbar entrance says he has been directed to block anyone carrying cooking gas cylinders from the entrance.
The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies says it has already written to all the concerned agencies to effect the change from today as per the new annual budget plan.
The annual plan had promised to change the mode of energy use in Singhadarbar to promote green energy in the country.
According to the government announcement, all public institutions within six metropolitan cities and 11 sub-metropolitan cities should also stop using cooking gas in the next three months (by mid-October).
