Kathmandu, February 10
The government-run Dairy Development Corporation (DDC) has increased the consumer price of standard milk it sells in plastic packets by Rs 9 per litre.
On Wednesday, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development had issued permission to companies to increase the price of milk. With the government-run DDC increasing the price, other companies will also immediately follow suit.
A DDC source says its board meeting yesterday decided to increase the price to Rs 85 per litre from the existing Rs 76. It means a 500-ml packet of milk will cost Rs 42.5.
A week ago, the government had increased the base price of milk for the farmers. Then, it was said it would not affect the consumer price.
