Gorkha, April 25
The recent agreement between Non-Resident Nepalis’ Association and the government of Nepal to develop a quake-devastated Laprak into a model integrated village has offered a glimmer of hope to the local people.
With this agreement, people putting up at temporary shelters in the village, that turned into rubble when a quake hit the country exactly a year ago, killing around 9,000 people, rendering thousands homeless and destroying infrastructure worth trillions of rupees, are hopeful that things will turn better, though they have been grappling with hardships galore for a year.
A day after President Bidhya Devi Bhandari, NRNA President Shesh Ghale and National Reconstruction Authority CEO Sushil Gyawali landed on the village where the government and NRNA signed the deal for development of the model village, people like Damini Gurung (76) feel they will get permanent houses sooner than later. So much so, Gurung even showered blessings on the builders, well before materialisation of her dream home.
NRNA President Ghale says the model settlement will be ready before the coming winter.
