Deuba accuses got of trying to destroy democratic values

Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba is welcomed by his cadres at Biratnagar Airport, on Tuesday, September 10, 2019.

Biratnagar, September 10

Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba has accused the incumbent government of trying to destroy norms and values of democracy.

He says the government of the Nepal Communist Party is trying to turn the country into a communist state. The former prime minister, however, maintains that the government cannot achieve its objectives as his party will launch a movement against that.

Speaking with journalists at Biratnagar Airport on Tuesday, Deuba warned, “If the government does not correct its mistakes, the opposition side will stand against it strongly.”

He said the government was systematically trying to interfere in fundamental pillars of democracy including the free press, judiciary and human rights.

In another context, Deuba claimed there were not any factional activities in his party and the party was united because everyone was free to speak up in the democracy organisation. He clarified that the party would form its interim provincial committees before the general convention.
