Kathmandu, May 27
Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has clarified that he will not step down from the party’s chief position nor will he take responsibility for the electoral drubbing at the hands of the communists.
Speaking at the 27th establishment day of Nepal Press Union, Deuba said, “I was elected President. Nobody has the right to question and say ‘get out’ to an elected president. The general convention will be held after three years, you can choose a new leadership then.”
After losing the three-tier election last year, party leaders have been questioning Deuba’s leadership and demanded to call a special convention to elect a new leadership. However, the party chair claims that the Nepali Congress lost the election because the UML-and the Maoists joine hands. “We lost because UML and Maoists joined hands. Why should I be blamed for the defeat?”
