Taulihawa, October 6
Two persons have reportedly died of diarrhoea in the Kapilvastu district of southwestern Nepal in recent days. Over 100 people have been taken ill due to the outbreak of the preventable water-borne disease.
In the Krishnanagar town of the district, local health facilities have been full of people reporting the problem. The Shivaraj Hospital in Bahadurgunj alone has over 90 patients.
The hospital’s Dr Mukesh Chaudhary says the hospital does not have sufficient beds for the patients and many of them have been kept on floors and outside yards for treatment.
The hospital has been referring serious cases to the District Hospital and Lumbini Provincial Hospital.
Most of the patients are children.
Meanwhile, the District Hospital sent a team of expert doctors to address the situation. Drinking water samples from the most affected neighbourhoods are being tested.
