The Department of Archaeology (DoA) has issued a notice prohibiting the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to generate and share images or videos of deities that could offend religious sentiments recently.
In its statement, the department urged social media users, including TikTok creators, to refrain from posting AI-generated visuals of deities that could undermine religious values and cultural heritage.
Emphasising Nepal’s rich religious, cultural, and archaeological significance, the DoA expressed concern over the increasing misuse of digital technology to create inappropriate content. The department called for responsible use of AI and social media to protect the sanctity of religious traditions.
