Kathmandu, June 19
Medical education reform activist Dr Govinda KC has urged the Tribhuvan University to revise its decision to appoint Prof Dr Divya Singh Shah as the dean of the Institute of Medicine.
The TU Executive Council on Wednesday had decided to appoint Dr Shah, also the personal physician of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, to the position for the next four years. However, stakeholders have protested the decision saying the decision was politically influenced. The ruling party’s student wing has also said Dr Shah’s appointment violated the principles of seniority and performance.
Issuing a statement on Friday, Dr KC demanded that the appointment should be made based on seniority. Some years ago, the activist had forced the TU to take back its dean appointment decision and appoint the second person on the basis of seniority, by staging a fast-unto-death against the decision.
Today also, he has warned of a strong protest if the decision was not rectified.
