Kathmandu, September 18
The umbrella organisation of Nepali medical doctors, Nepal Medical Association, has urged the government to save the life of medical education reform activist Dr Govinda KC.
With his six demands, Dr KC is staging a fast-unto-death in Jumla of Karnali for the past five days.
The association says it is concerned that the government has not taken any initiative to address his demands though five days have passed since he began the hunger strike and his health is already deteriorating. The government should hold talks with Dr KC to discuss his demands, according to an NMA statement issued by its General Secretary Dr Badri Rijal on Friday.
Dr KC has demanded that the government start the MBBS programme at Karnali Academy of Health Sciences, expand the range of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests for coronavirus across the country, and end lockdowns and prohibitory orders after making the use of mask and physical distancing compulsory for all.
Likewise, he has also demanded investigations into various corruption cases of the country including those of the health sector and take action against them.
