Butwal, June 17
The Butwal-Sunawal section of the East-West Highway in the Lumbini province has been obstructed after a flood washed away a diversion in the Sunawal municipality of Nawalparasi.
The incessant rainfall on Thursday night caused a flood in the Turiya stream that washed away the diversion, informs the Provincial Traffic Police Office.
After an iron bridge collapsed during the monsoon last year, officials had made a diversion for smooth vehicular movement along the East-West Highway. However, it got washed away last night, keeping hundreds of vehicles on both sides stranded.
The office’s spokesperson DSP Mohan Bahadur Khand says it will still take a few more hours to resume transportation along the section. Until that, the police have urged motorists to use alternative routes.
