Egg prices rise to Rs 16.66 per piece

Kathmandu, December 20

The price of chicken eggs is set to increase, with the new rates taking effect from December 20. According to the Nepal Layer Poultry Farmers’ Association, the price per crate of eggs has been raised by Rs 15.

The price of medium-sized eggs has increased from Rs 470 to Rs 485 per crate, while large eggs have gone up from Rs 485 to Rs 500 per crate. The rates have been set based on prices in Chitwan, as per the association’s decision in a meeting held Thursday.

The association also stated that transportation, crate, and carton costs would add an additional Rs 140 per crate when eggs are delivered to depots. Consequently, the price of eggs in the market will now be over Rs16 per piece.

Poultry and egg industry representative Pradip Adhikari explained that the price hike is due to reduced production during the winter season and increased market demand.
