Biratnagar, May 23
Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhee Prasad Yadav has said the second phase of local level elections scheduled for June 14 will not be deferred despite the government’s decision to increase the number of local levels in Terai region.
Yadav’s statement contradicts the view of Election Commissioner Narendra Dahal, who had earlier said that the Commission could not hold polls in new local units on the scheduled date.
“Though the decision to increase the number of local levels creates technical and managerial difficulties,” Yadav said today during a press conference in Biratnagar, “But, the date fixed for the second phase of elections will not be changed.”
Yadav said the Commission would solve all technical problems including the making of voters’ list and management of logistics after needful discussion.
