Kathmandu, May 23
The police have concluded their investigation of the fake Bhutanese refugee scam. They submitted the investigation report to Kathmandu District Government Attorneys’ Office on Monday.
The investigation has concluded that at least 33 people were involved in the scam. The report says at least 106 people have been defrauded of at least Rs 275 million with the promise of sending them to the United States as fake refugees.
Of the arrestees, 16 including high-profile suspects such as former deputy prime minister Top Bahadur Rayamajhi and former home minister Bal Krishna Khand have been arrested.
The other 17 are on the run.
