Feasibility study for waterway transport in Narayani

Nawalparasi, March 5

A feasibility study was carried out in Nawalparasi district in connection with the operation of waterway transport in the Gandaki River.

The feasibility study was undertaken as part of broader campaign to operate waterways in Nepal’s three big rivers – Koshi, Gandaki and Karnali.

A joint team comprising high-level officials of Nepal and India on Monday carried out the feasibility study in the Narayani River along with Gandak barrage and spur number 12 of the Gandak area.

Madhav Belabse, Nepali team coordinator and joint secretary at Water and Energy Commission Secretariat, informs that the area has high potentials for the operation of ship.

A detailed feasibility study report will be prepared on the operation of waterway transport in the area once the team returns to Kathmandu, says Tarka Raj Bhatta, undersecretary at Ministry of Commerce and Supplies.

The joint team of Nepali and Indian officials observed the field after it was assigned to undertake a feasibility study regarding the operation of waterway transport in Nepali territory.
