Kathmandu, September 4
The Prachanda-led government has destroyed consumables worth around Rs 30 million, confiscated from Mega Mart, Saleways, Bhatbhateni, Big Mart department stores and United Distributors, among others, in course of recent market monitoring conducted from mid-August till early September.
Officials from the Department of Supply Management, Department of Standards and Metrology and consumer rights activists were involved in the monitoring. The seized and destroyed stuffs include 5,500 Horlicks bottles.
In course of market inspection, monitoring teams had also sealed some outlets of Bhatbhateni, Saleways Big Mart and Mega Mart.
The stuffs destroyed in Sundarighat, Balkhu, in the presence of Minister for Supplies Dipak Bohora include date-expired products, those without labels and inedible stuffs. The destroyed stuffs include pulse, rice, beaten rice, dry food items, medicine and bottled water.
