Kathmandu, November 25
The resumption of full passport services is expected to take another two weeks, according to the Department of Passports.
In a public notice, the department stated that restoring services to full capacity may require one to two weeks. The department explained that services were suspended after a virus was detected in some computers associated with the passport application system, necessitating preventive measures to contain its spread.
Partial services have resumed, and the department plans to open bookings for new application forms within the next one to two days.
The department assured that security measures have been heightened, sensitive to data protection and that applicants’ information remains secure despite the virus incident.
However, the suspension of services has caused inconvenience to applicants. On Sunday, frustrated service seekers staged protests at the department following the abrupt halt of services.
