Pokhara, April 15
Minutes after the Gandaki Provincial Assembly Secretariat received a notice from the Province Chief (Governor)’s Office that the current session of the assembly has been prorogued, opposition parties have filed a no-confidence motion against Chief Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung.
Gurung had recommended for the prorogation after the Nepali Congress, CPN-Maoist Centre, Janata Samajwadi Party, and Rastriya Janamorcha finalised a deal to file a no-confidence motion against him.
Despite the end of the current session, the opposition parties except Janamorcha filed the motion, proposing Krishna Chandra Nepali Pokharel as Gurung’s successor.
The Congress party’s lawmaker Kumar Khadka says Janamorcha has also expressed its commitment to voting in favour of the motion.
After the registration of the motion, the Congress lawmakers also submitted an application to the Governor Amik Sherchan, demanding he summon the new special session of the legislative.
The constitution has it that the governor shall summon the session upon receiving such an application from at least one-fourth of members of the assembly.
