Government withdraws decision to present ordinances for approval

Kathmandu, February 6

The government has decided not to present six ordinances for approval in the Federal Parliament today. Citing unresolved discussions with the Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal (JSPN) and numerical challenges in the National Assembly, the government has retracted its earlier decision to move forward with the ordinances.

According to a senior leader of the ruling party, the agenda for both the House of Representatives and the National Assembly meetings has been revised. Minister for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, Ajay Chaurasiya, conveyed Prime Minister’s message to Speaker Devraj Ghimire.

Following this, the agenda for both houses was changed. Minister Chaurasiya personally visited New Baneshwor to inform Speaker Ghimire of the Prime Minister’s decision.

“The Prime Minister has decided not to proceed with the ordinances today,” Chaurasiya reportedly told the Speaker, according to a party leader.

Earlier, the ordinances were scheduled to be presented in both houses of Parliament today. While the ruling coalition of Nepali Congress and CPN-UML holds a clear majority in the House of Representatives, the Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal remains a decisive factor in the National Assembly.
