Kathmandu, September 30
Owing to comments and criticisms that federalism heavily restricted the role of chief district officers, making once a powerful position obsolete, the Ministry of Home Affairs has begun reviewing the role.
Recently, the ministry sent a questionnaire to all 77 CDOs asking them to explain their role in the changed context and provide suggestions on how the role should go further. Home Secretary Tek Narayan Pandey says the CDOs have been asked to email their answers.
It is expected that the ministry will formulate some new rules about their role after collecting and studying responses from the CDOs.
