Kathmandu, March 24
Despite its decision to lock down the country to control the spread of novel coronavirus infection, the government has decided to let Nepali citizens enter the country on Tuesday only.
However, those entering the country must agree to be quarantined for the next 14 days, according to the government spokesperson and Minister for Finance Yuba Raj Khatiwada.
After the government announced the lockdown yesterday evening to come into effect from this morning also, hundreds of Nepalis had arrived at a few Nepal-India border points demanding that they be allowed to go back to their houses. However, the police had barred them, triggering protests.
A meeting of the high-level government committee on coronavirus control made the decision to let them enter the country today. The government has directed concerned local government units to quarantine them.
Pvt sector urged to import equipment
Meanwhile, the committee has told the private sector to import various equipment including the personal protective equipment (PPE) required for the checkup of Covid-19 suspects and the treatment of the patients.
Likewise, all the government agencies and private organisations have been told not to operate their own funds in the name of support for coronavirus victims.
