Kathmandu, February 7
The government is preparing to reopen schools across Nepal that have been shut for the past month due to the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic triggered by the Omicron variant of coronavirus.
The Covid-19 Crisis Management Coordination Centre has recommended that the government reopen the schools from February 13. Schools, private tuition classes and other teaching-learning activities will also be allowed after that.
The decision was taken the rate of infection is gradually on the decline in the past few days.
Because most of the children above the age of 12 years have already received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, physical classes have been allowed. But, children below that age are not vaccinated yet. Hence, schools have to arrange different shifts or days for them to ensure the presence of fewer students.
Meanwhile, the centre also recommended lifting the odd-even rationing on the operation of private vehicles in the Kathmandu valley from Monday. Accordingly, the district administration offices of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur have already issued different notices yesterday itself.
