The Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology has awarded scholarships worth Rs 7.39 billion to 1.57 million students from primary to higher and technical education levels in the current fiscal year.
On Sunday, the ministry published details of the scholarships distributed. According to the report, 12,065 students received residential scholarships amounting to Rs 603.2 million. This includes students with disabilities, freed Kamlaris, marginalised communities, street children, HIV-affected individuals, and those from the Badi community, who received Rs 50,000 annually.
Similarly, 1.54 million students were granted non-residential scholarships worth Rs 627 million. Under the Karnali Package, girls studying in grades 1–5 received an annual stipend of Rs 1,000.
For Dalit students, 552,000 students in grades 1–5 were awarded Rs 210 million. Additionally, Rs 600 million was allocated for scholarships targeting economically disadvantaged students. Students in grades 11–12 received Rs 24,000 annually for science courses and Rs 18,000 for other subjects, while those in grades 6–10 received Rs 6,000 per year.
In technical education, scholarships totaling Rs 59.4 million were provided to Dalit, Muslim, and marginalised students. These included a monthly stipend of Rs 3,500, an annual transportation allowance of Rs 1,500, and a uniform allowance of Rs 2,500.
For higher education, Rs 24,000 per year was granted to undergraduates and postgraduates from the families of martyrs, conflict victims, freed Kamlaris, Muslim women, and students with disabilities.
Economically disadvantaged students received Rs 15,000 per year for general courses and Rs 21,000 for technical courses. Meanwhile, scholarships for medical education amounted to Rs 5.11 billion, benefiting 10,594 students, according to the ministry.
