Be honest, have no fear: PM Oli tells govt employees

Kathmandu, February 14

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has criticised the tendency in the bureaucracy to fear seniors.

PM Oli, inaugurating a five-day training on the implementation of project development agreement, urged government employees to discharge their duties fearlessly.

“An undersecretary fears joint secretary, joint secretary fears secretary and secretary is fearful of chief secretary,” he said, adding: There’s no need to fear anyone if you are honest.

“The government does not care which parties government employees voted for. It does not care who is close to which party. The government bothers itself with performance of the employees only,” he said.

“Chief district officers have a very weak role in development,” he said, expressing dissatisfaction over this. “CDOs should not only settle disputes, they should also enlighten people on development.”

He accused government employees of vying for facilities at the expense of their duties. “Political appointees in particular enquire about facilities like vehicles right after assuming office. With such a tendency, how can development take place?”
