Kathmandu, April 16
The Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee has endorsed the nominations of Kumar Chudal and Nahakul Subedi for the Supreme Court justices.
A meeting of the committee on Friday unanimously okayed both names after a hearing with them.
On March 12, the Judicial Council had nominated them for the vacant positions. Currently, they are chief judges at Patan High Court and Surkhet High Court respectively.
The laws have it that officials of constitutional bodies including the Supreme Court are appointed by the president once the committee approves them following a hearing.
Before the hearing, the Supreme Court Bar Association and some media had argued Subedi did not have the sufficient experience required to be qualified for the position. Even a writ petition was filed against him, but the Supreme Court had cleared the decks.
