Kathmandu, September 14
The Parliament’s Development Committee on Wednesday directed the government to effectively implement the decision on minimum wage for working journalists.
This comes at a time when media houses have not bothered to implement the government decision. The committee directed Minister for Information and Communications Ram Karki to ensure implementation of the decision after discussions.
The committee also told the ministry to set standards for journalists and enforce the professional code of conduct so as to make news credible. At the meeting, Minister Karki said it will not be possible to implement the decision on minimum wage for journalists.
Even those working with government bodies are not getting minimum wages, he said, adding: In such a context, enforcing the decision on minimum wage at private media houses will require cooperation from all concerned.
