Indian investigators have started investigating controversial businessman Vijay Mallya’s ‘Nepal connection’.

The Central Bureau of Investigation has started an investigation into companies that have Mallya’s direct or indirect investment. Such companies number around 40, Indian officials claim, adding that they are based inn Nepal, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, South Africa and China. They claim that Mallya has landed property in different countries. Mallya has taken a huge loan (IC 900 crore) from the IDBI Bank, in the name of Kingfisher Airlines. The businessman is suspected to have invested the money in different countries.

Mallya is currently in London. India’s Ministry of External Affairs has scrapped his passport. And India is making preparations to request the UK to hand him over.

Mallya has claimed that the bank has refused his offer to repay part of his loan.
