Saptari, January 7
Some personnel of the Indian Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) guarding the Nepal-India border have obstructed construction works for a bridge in Saptari district of southeastern Nepal.
A bridge was being constructed over local Khadka Khola stream in Dakneshwari municipality-6 of the district under the Postal Highway construction project. However, some SSB personnel obstructed the construction work citing the area borders with India, hence central leaderships of the two countries should make an agreement.
Earlier, locals of Kataiya village on the Nepal side and Kariyaur village on the Indian side had already agreed to construct the bridge as the land is on the Nepal side, according to Ashutosh Karna, a site engineer of the project.
Following the obstruction, the project has informed the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport of the incident, Karna says.
Chief District Officer Shankar Hari Acharya says he tried to solve the problem through a conversation with the district magistrate of the area on the Indian side, but the magistrate could not make a decision and sought help from senior authority.
Acharya says he also reported the issue to the Ministry of Home Affairs. He hopes the problem would be solved at an initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs so that the construction works would continue smoothly.
