Kathmandu, October 6
The Province 5 Assembly has endorsed the provincial government’s proposal to establish the provincial capital in Bhalubang (Deukhuri valley) of Dang.
During voting held on Tuesday, 69 of 87 lawmakers voted for Bhalubang as the capital. The proposal had required support from the two-thirds lawmakers (at least 58) to get endorsed. There were 13 votes against the proposal.
Meanwhile, the government proposal to rename the province as Lumbini also got endorsed. There were 79 votes for Lumbini whereas four votes were against it.
Whereas the main opposition Nepali Congress had officially directed its lawmakers to vote against the proposal to establish the capital in Dang, it has supported the proposal to rename the province as Lumbini.
